Kenneth Ford is Founder and Director of the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC), a statewide not-for-profit research institute of Florida’s State University System.

In this interview Ken discusses his personal experience of the journey from the relatively closed environment on a ‘park land’ university, to being at the centre of a revitalised downtown community.

IHMC was initially conceived as a research arm of the University of Southern Florida. It separated itself organisationally and geographically to take residence in downtown Pensacola. Such an action was ahead of its time and drew interest and criticism from many people, who were not used to a national research hub being an integral part of community and a key catalyst for community development.
