Information and Communications Technology

Western Australia’s world-class information and communications technology (ICT) industry is one of the major drivers of the State’s economy. While the majority of the State’s current economic growth stems from the resources sector, the State Government is planning for the future beyond the current economic boom. ICT is one of four pillars of economic diversification that are critical to Western Australia’s future along with biotechnology, marine and defence and clean technology.

The ICT industry is the core of many business operations and underpins many of Western Australia’s key industries including mining and agriculture and their associated service industries.

Western Australia already has a strong and innovative technology arena that is constantly expanding to meet the accelerated rate of change in the global business environment. 

Bentley Technology Park, right on Perth’s door step, is becoming an ICT hub. It is an exciting technology driven destination that co-locates WA’s diverse and experienced ICT industry. 

The Park will ensure the already strong ICT industry in WA further cements itself in the global ICT arena.

At present, 35 per cent of Bentley Technology Park is focused on the ICT industry. The WA Government is currently planning to expand the Park from 42 hectares to an area of 314 hectares, to build on the State’s significant ICT base.

The Bentley Technology Park master plan will incorporate the State Government’s vision to establish Western Australia as an Australian ICT corridor.

The Park is already home to a range of high performance computing and 3D applications through the Interactive Virtual Environments Centre (iVEC) and an ISA/IBM joint venture.

Already a successful destination for international software developers, Western Australia is destined to become a major international ICT centre of excellence. 

WA is producing 60 per cent of the internationally recognised mining software systems, has strong capabilities in computer gaming with the establishment of Interzone and strengths in vertical markets.
